Barbara Ballard is a representative in the Kansas Legislature, on behalf of Lawrence’s 44th District. She is also the associate director for outreach at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. For 24 years, Ballard worked in KU’s student service division, now called Student Success, starting as director of the Emily Taylor Women’s Resource Center. She has served as interim dean of student life, associate vice chancellor for student affairs, and associate vice provost for student success. Prior to being elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1992, Ballard was a member and president of the Lawrence School Board. Ballard received her B.A. from Webster College, and an M.A. and doctoral degree in counseling from Kansas State University in Manhattan.
