Director of E-Learning, Navajo Technical University

Dr. Coleen Arviso currently serves as the Online Learning Director at Navajo Technical University (NTU), where she oversees the educational journey of over 1,500 students and more than 100 faculty members. With over 25 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Arviso has established herself as a leader in online learning, instructional design, and technology integration.

Throughout her career, Dr. Arviso has been dedicated to enhancing educational practices by leveraging technology to improve teaching and learning environments, particularly on the Navajo Reservation. She has developed and implemented instructional technology training sessions, designed technology-enriched classrooms, and created fully online degree programs, all aimed at engaging students and empowering faculty.

Dr. Arviso holds a Ph.D. in Education & E-learning from Northcentral University, along with an Education Specialist degree in E-Learning and a Professional Certificate in Online Learning and Instructional Technology. Her academic background is complemented by a Master’s in Management Information Systems and a Bachelor’s in the same field.

Her leadership skills and innovative approach have made her a sought-after expert in higher education, and she has actively participated in various committees, both as a member and chair, advocating for the involvement of tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) in educational decision-making processes. Dr. Arviso’s commitment to ensuring compliance with federal and accreditation standards, coupled with her instrumental role in implementing NC-SARA at NTU, illustrates her dedication to advancing online education.

Dr. Arviso’s vision for education transcends traditional boundaries, as she fosters collaboration and innovation to create dynamic learning environments. She is passionate about integrating new technologies to enhance student engagement and faculty teaching methods, ultimately driving the future of education within the tribal college community and beyond.
